Four former Evangel athletes will be inducted into the Crusader Hall of Fame during halftime of the homecoming game this Saturday, Oct. 11. The honored inductees are Marcy (Fothergill) Snider, Lynn Bowen, Jay Hellwig and Kirk Spain.

Snider is a 1986 Evangel graduate and won four volleyball letters. She still holds the career serve percentage record (98.7) and ranks No. 3 in season serve percentage (98.59 in 1985). In the record book, Snider is in the top-5 in seven categories and ranks in the top-10 in eight stat rankings. She won team awards for most improved as a freshman (1982), best server (1984, 1985) and best setter (1984, 1985).
 
Bowen  graduated from Evangel in 1972 after earning four soccer letters and one in baseball. He has been with the university 25 years. An associate professor in the Physical Education Department, Bowen is also beginning his tenth year as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams and the women's track and field team. During his time at Evangel, he served as the head women's basketball coach for 16 seasons (1980-81, 1984-1999). His 1985-86 team won the NCCAA I National Championship, the first national title by any sport at Evangel, and the 1995-96 EU squad advanced to the final four round of the NAIA II national tournament. Bowen also guided the softball team for three seasons (1991-93).
 
Hellwig  graduated from Evangel in 1995 and earned four football letters as an outside linebacker. Hellwig still holds seven Evangel records. Season records he holds are most runners thrown for losses (31.5, 1994), sacks (18.5, 1994), and caused fumbles (9, 1993). Hellwig holds career records for most runners thrown for losses (82.5), sacks (45.5), and caused fumbles (13). He also is the single-game record holder for most runners thrown for losses (tackles for losses plus sacks) with six versus William Jewell in 1993 and also versus Benedictine in 1994. In 1994, Hellwig was a first team NAIA II All-America pick and was named the defensive player of the year for the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
 
Spain is a 1989 graduate of Evangel. He won three football letters as a placekicker (1985-87). An Assemblies of God missionary, Spain also serves with Baseball Chapel as team chaplain for the Springfield Cardinals, the AA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. At the final horn of his last game, Spain had booted 26 field goals, 85 extra points, 33 consecutive extra points, totaled 163 points as a kicker, and averaged 4.3 points.   Holds season records for field goals made and attempted in a game (5), consecutive field goals (6), and longest field goal of 52 yards vs. Northeastern State University (Okla.) in 1985. Spain earned first team NAIA All-District 16 first team honors as a kicker and was ranked No. 6 nationally in NAIA kick scoring during the 1987 season, averaging 7.3 points per game.
