CANTON, Mo. - Culver-Stockton College Director of Athletics Rod Walton has announced the hiring of Timothy Southers as head women's basketball coach. Southers, the ninth head coach in the college's history, replaces Dan Chapla, who resigned on March 6 after six seasons.

"Timothy Southers is an experienced coach who brings to C-SC the experience of building an outstanding program at Midway College," said Walton. "Coach Southers' enthusiasm toward teaching coupled with his passion for coaching women's basketball was very instrumental in our search committee's decision to recommend him to our administration."

Southers comes to the Lady Wildcats after serving the last seven years as head coach at Midway College in Midway, Ky., compiling an 83-140 career record. The 83 victories is a school record. His 2007-08 team finished with a 23-8 overall record and won the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) regular season championship with a 9-1 league mark, both school records. For his efforts, Southers was named the KIAC Coach of the Year.

"I enjoy new challenges, and I love having the opportunity of revitalizing a program," said Southers. "The women's program at Culver-Stockton has a fine tradition dating back to the 1980s, and it's ready to shine again. I jumped at the prospect to help in allowing it to do just that, bring that excitement back."

During his time at Midway his teams produced 10 KIAC all-conference performers, two KIAC player-of-the-year selections and three NAIA scholar-athletes. Six players coached or recruited by Southers have scored 1,000 career points, and a player coached or recruited by Southers holds the all-time record at Midway in points, rebounds, assists, steals, field goal percentage, field goals made and 3-point field goal percentage. In addition, his teams have finished in the top 10 nationally in NAIA Division II in several statistical categories over the past four years, including rebounding, steals, blocks and assists.

His teams have also been successful off the court, recording a 3.0 or better grade point average for 13 consecutive semesters, a 100 percent graduation rate, and have been recognized three times in the past six years by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's prestigious Academic Honor Roll.

Southers attended Urbana (Ohio) University where he helped the Blue Knights to a conference championship and a spot in the NAIA national tournament in 1997. He was awarded a bachelor of science degree in 1999 and a master of arts degree in 2001.
